My Brother, My Hero

I yip yap a LOT about my honey Austin.  It is hard not to when you are in love with the most adorable, kind wiener in the world, but today I want to talk about my brother Spike Spike moved in with us a few months ago and I knew that he had back problems cuz he walked funny but now I know so much more about him.  He has had an extraordinary life.  He lived with a loving family since he was a pup.  He was happy and well cared for.  Then one day when he was 6 he "went down".  This is when a doggy hurts their back and if they aren't treated right away they can be paralyzed and even....gulp.....die His parents took him to the doggy doctor and he said he would probably not survive and even if he did he wouldn't have the same happy personality The family was heartbroken and they wanted to do the right thing for him but they decided to just see how he did.  He was paralyzed in both the front and rear legs.  His family learned how to help him go potty and kept him clean. They rolled him around in a little red wagon and then one day his tail started waggin'.  He recovered slowly but steadily after that. A true miracle

A few years later Spike was taking a walk with his momma and a big unleashed pit bull attacked him Spike was so short he couldn't even defend himself. Poor fella.  A nice neighbor man was able to get the pit bull off of Spike but he was left with several puncture wounds in his head.  Again, my brother survived....another miracle. Spike's grandparents were authors of a history book about Virginia and there are drawings of Spike in the book, so not only is my brother a fighter but he is also famous!

Then there was a bad thing that happened in the economy.  I have no idea what that is but it made it so that Spike couldn't live with his family anymore.  He was very sad but his family wanted him to be with people who could take care of him. That was when Dachshund Rescue of North America came to his aid Spike lived with his first foster momma. She was a very nice lady who was studying to be a doggy doctor. While living with her Spike got a nasty spider bite and it was very ouchy for him, but like always Spike fought and got better Now Spike lives with me and even though he was only suppose to be a foster brother, my momma and daddy fell in love with him. They thought his spirit would fit in good with our family

About two weeks ago we found out that Spike has hypo-thyroidism. (I didn't know what this was so I asked my mom to write this part.) This means that he doesn't have enough of a certain chemical and it makes him hungry, gain weight, and feel sorta yucky.  The vet gave him medicine that will make him better He is already losing weight. (Wish I could.) I think that Spike is a true dog hero for going through everything he has and still being such a sweetie. I am so proud he is my fur-brother.

Spike wants to say something:

"Hi! Me name Spike. I love you. Thanks for reading sissy's story.  Me have IVDD. That means Intervertebral Disk Disease. Me so glad my first family loved me and didn't give up on Spike. If you have doggy that get IVDD, momma says to go to cuz they can help you save your baby. Me hungry go beg for snackie. Woof!"

Spike lived with our family for 3 years. On May 15, 2014 we helped Spike over the bridge. If heart alone could have kept him alive he would still be here. His body was tired and we knew it was time to set him free. He was never grumpy, never felt sorry for himself and always forgave. We have a great deal to learn from his example.

We will always love you Spike.

My Engagement

I knew it was going to be a magical night from the moment my amber brown eyes opened that morning.  He was looking at me with a mischievous look and was trying hard to hide his secret but his tail started thumping on the bed and he said, "Tonight we are going to eat our kibble out on the porch....alone."  I felt my haunches quiver and I mustered up enough composure to say, "Ok".  All that day he was super sweet. He let me eat his left over breakfast kibble crumbs, licked my ears, and showed me some new dead critters in the yard to roll in.  At around 4:30 I awoke from my mid-afternoon nap and mom helped me get my daily bath and rubbed me down with lotion.  I slipped into my pink and white stripped frock and pranced downstairs to see if Austin was ready for dinner.  I couldn't find him anywhere but then when I went out the back door I spotted him, freshly brushed and waiting for me on a picnic blanket.  Before I could even say a thing he started singing my favorite Blake Shelton song.

"If you'll be my soft and sweet
I'll be your strong and steady
You'll be my glass of wine
I'll be your shot of whiskey
You'll be my sunny day
I'll be your shade tree
You'll be my honeysuckle
I'll be your honey bee"

His howl was so seductive. I was putty in his paws.  He waddled up next to me, licked my face and said. "Woof!"

Oh wow! This was getting steamy.  He presented a lovely dinner of salmon Little Cesar's and pupperoni treats along with two strawberry dach-eri's. (My favorite drink.)  He whispered sweet nothings into my bald ear and gently licked the crumbs off of my snoot. I was overcome with love as I looked into his dark brown eyes.  And happened.  The moment I've been waiting for since we met.  He nuzzled up to my neck and said, "Honey, I love you. Be my doxie-bride." Tears started filling my eyes and I looked down as he presented the most gorgeous ring I have ever seen.

"Yip, yip, yip, Yes!!!" was all I could say.

So now we are officially engaged to be wed.  Mr. and Mrs. Austin Landgraf....I love the sound of that.  We haven't set a date yet but you will be the first to know when we do.

Love is In the Air

Yip Yap everyone!

I have again negleted my pawing duties the last few days but things have been busy around here.

I have been making new friends on my Facebook Fan Page and working on finalizing my Wiener Roast Photo Contest. In fact, winners will be announce tomorrow! So exciting.

This past Saturday, Austin and I attended an online wedding for our friends Vernon and Zoey.  They make such a lovely couple.  Zoey's wedding gown was sooooo pretty and Vernon looked so dapper!  I couldn't help shedding a few tears.  I get so darn emotional at weddings.  Vernon's vows were so could just feel the love.

He said, "I Vernon affirm my love to you, Zoey as I invite you to share my life. You are the most beautiful, smart, and generous Dachshund I have ever known, and I promise always to respect you. With kindness, unselfishness and trust, I will work by your side to create a wonderful life together. I take you Zoey to be my lawful wife, to have and to hold, from this day forward, for better or for worse, for richer or for poorer, in sickness and in health for as long as we both shall live.
I love you my Zoey , thank you for being my wife."

Isn't that the sweetest!

They received tons of great stuff, boxes of Champaign, a lovely cottage home, a cruise around the world, magnificent flowers, and their cake....well all I can say is wow!

I have no doubt that the two of them will live in wedded weenie wonderfulness for years and years.

Now I am looking forward to my wedding to Austin even more.

Well, I'm off to work out on the treadmill now. Have a great day!

You're gonna do WHAT???!!!

Yip yap friends. It has been quite a while since I have written to you.  Things around my pack have been pretty busy and momma hasn’t been feeling well so I sort of just was taking care of things for her.  It has left me with little time to paw out my blogs to you.

Brother Spike has been having tummy “issues” and I’ve been trying to get my little foster brother Mojo Watson to comprehend potty training.  This has been a big challenge for me cuz I’m not exactly an expert in this area. He is getting much better at it now. I would be a pro except that sometimes the grass is dewy in the morning and I HATE getting my paws wet.  I have, from time to time, done potty on the deck which disappoints my parents. I do not like it when this happens cuz they are so nice, but it as though my doxie bladder has a mind of its own.

Oh Big News!!!! Austin finally proposed to me!  It is a long story and I will paw it out tomorrow, but we are now officially engaged. So happy my tail just keeps waggin’.

Mom gave me a bath this morning and she told me she had to clean my hiney. I was okay with it at first but then……..YIKES!  She started to clean my, eh hem….sorry but there is just no other way to word it……anal glands. (Sorry I know that is graphic.)  I told her I would just scoot around on the carpet to take care of it, but she insisted. Oh the horror! She lifted up my trembling tail and gently (ha that’s her word not mine) squeezed me in the most personal place. Luckily it was over quickly.  She at least had the courtesy to close the bathroom door so my brothers and Austin didn’t see this humiliating experience.

Well it is over now and actually I feel pretty good but it’s not like I’m looking forward to it again it the future.  At least the next time she says she is going to clean my hiney I will know what to expect and possibly be able to plan an escape.

Well I better be going now.  Need to see what lil’ Mojo is up to.  I am attaching some new pictures of him.  He really needs a loving home soon or my pack may get bigger. Tee hee.  Have a Wiener-rific day!

Licks and Nuzzles,
